A Chattanooga mom is arrested after a mentally disabled boy accidentally shot himself.

Shallon Sales’ family says she left the 13-year-old alone for twenty minutes while she went to buy school clothes.

The bullet shattered the boy’s arm. He called police and told them he was shot by an ice cream man.

The boy, who has autism, later admitted to using a gun belonging to his mom’s boyfriend.

Police say they found drugs and three guns in the house, one of them stolen.

Shallon Sales has been charged with aggravated child neglect. She’s been jailed on a $50,000 dollar bond.

Authorities are having trouble finding the truck driver charged in the nine-vehicle wreck on I-75.

39-year-old Benjamin Brewer could face decades in prison if he’s convicted.

After police issued a warrant for his arrest Monday, deputies went straight to the address he gave them: a home in London, Kentucky.

His relatives live there and they say they’ve not heard from him and don’t know where he is.

Police have identified the man killed after waging an attack at a Nashville movie theater.

Authorities say 29-year-old Vincente David Montano was carrying two backpacks, a pellet gun, a hatchet and pepper spray.

He was shot to death by the SWAT team as he tried to escape out a back door.

No one was taken to the hospital.

Authorities say Montano had significant psychological issues. One of the backpacks contained a fake bomb.

The FBI has scaled back its presence in Chattanooga following the attack on local military centers.

Immediately after the shooting as many as 1,000 agents flooded the city.

Now they’ve left the Hamilton County Emergency Operations Center.

The FBI says around 130 agents will continue to work on the case from their downtown Chattanooga office.

Two Chattanooga area men have been arrested for illegally excavating Civil War artifacts.

39-year-old Kenneth Fagin Jr. of South Pittsburg and 61-year-old Terry Tate of Manchester pleaded guilty.

The artifacts came from sites in Marion and Hardin counties in Tennessee, and Jackson County in Alabama.

They’ve been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $40,000 dollars in restitution.

A couple has won the right to get Tennessee’s first same-sex divorce.

Frederick and Larry Borman were married in Iowa.

Now a court of appeals says the two are entitled to divorce under the recent Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage.

An area jail guard has been arrested in a Homeland Security investigation.

32-year-old officer Nicholas Butler is accused of tampering with government records.

The Scottsboro man has been relieved of his duties at the DeKalb County Jail.

Authorities say he could face even more charges.

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is coming to Chattanooga.

He’ll be in town at 8:30 a.m. Monday to meet with residents over biscuits and gravy.

Officials say so many people wanted to meet him that they had to find a larger venue. The event will be held at GraceWorks Church on Lee Highway.

Cleveland has received 36 applications for its open police chief job.

Applicants include police chiefs from East Ridge, Red Bank, UTC, Chattanooga State, and the Chattanooga Housing Authority.

One applicant works with the United Nations in Somalia.

The city hopes to narrow the list to around five candidates by Friday.

Tennessee Vols wide receiver Von Pearson will not be charged in a rape investigation.

Pearson had been suspended for more than three months after he was named a suspect in the case.

Now the district attorney says there’s insufficient evidence.
